New blood test may replace risky food challenges for shrimp allergy diagnosis in kids

NCT ID NCT07501325

First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study will check if blood tests measuring IgE antibodies to two shrimp proteins (tropomyosin and hemocyanin) can accurately diagnose shrimp allergy in children. About 129 kids with suspected shrimp allergy will take an oral food challenge, skin prick test, and blood test. The goal is to see if these blood tests can reliably identify true shrimp allergy, potentially making diagnosis easier and safer.
