First seen Mar 17, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study tests two ways to numb the arm for shoulder surgery. The standard method can weaken the diaphragm, making it hard to breathe. The new method aims to block pain without affecting breathing. About 70 adults aged 65 and older having shoulder surgery will be randomly assigned to one of the two approaches, and their diaphragm movement will be checked with ultrasound.
