Could a 3-Week radiation course beat the standard for cervical cancer?
NCT ID NCT07276360
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a shorter, higher-dose radiation schedule (hypofractionated radiotherapy) to the standard longer course for women with locally advanced cervical cancer in Uganda. About 278 participants will receive either the shorter or standard radiation, plus chemotherapy and internal radiation. The goal is to see if the shorter schedule is as safe and effective, while reducing treatment time and costs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Hypofractionated radiotherapy (HFRT) with cisplatin chemotherapy and brachytherapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a shorter, cheaper, and equally effective radiation option for cervical cancer, making treatment more accessible in low-resource settings.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 2 trial with 278 participants, so results are still preliminary. The shorter radiation may cause different side effects or prove less effective than standard treatment.
