Shingles shot put to the test in older HIV patients
NCT ID NCT05575830
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how well the Shingrix vaccine protects against shingles in people over 50 living with HIV, compared to healthy adults of the same age and gender. About 225 participants will receive two doses of the vaccine and be monitored for one year. The goal is to see if the vaccine triggers a strong immune response and is safe in this group.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Shingrix (recombinant zoster vaccine)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that the Shingrix vaccine works well in older adults with HIV, helping prevent shingles in this group.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 4 study, so the vaccine is already approved. The main question is whether it works as well in people with HIV, but immune responses may be weaker, and side effects like injection-site reactions are possible.
