Wristband could change how we track high blood pressure

NCT ID NCT06356077

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This completed study looked at how blood pressure changes over 12 weeks in 1,729 adults with hypertension who used the Aktiia 24/7 optical blood pressure monitor. The device is a wristband that measures blood pressure continuously without a cuff. Researchers also asked participants which monitoring method they preferred: the Aktiia bracelet, a home blood pressure monitor, or a 24-hour ambulatory monitor. The goal was to gather information, not to test a treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Aktiia 24/7 optical blood pressure monitoring (OBPM) device

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show that continuous optical blood pressure monitoring is a practical and preferred way to track hypertension at home.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It cannot prove that using the device improves health outcomes, and results may not apply to all people with high blood pressure.
