First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests a structured shared decision-making program for family members of ICU patients with acute kidney injury who need urgent dialysis. One hundred family members will be randomly assigned to receive either the program or standard care. Researchers will measure decision conflict, regret, anxiety, and depression to see if the program helps families feel more supported.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Integrated Shared Decision-making Program
What this could lead to
If successful, this program could improve how families make tough decisions about starting dialysis, reducing their stress and regret.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study focused on family well-being, not on patient survival or kidney recovery. The program may not reduce anxiety or regret more than standard care.
