Can a better chat help heart patients decide? new trial tests shared Decision-Making
NCT ID NCT05711186
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a structured shared decision-making process helps patients with severe aortic stenosis choose between two valve replacement options: TAVR (less invasive) and SAVR (surgery). 140 patients aged 70+ will be randomly assigned to either the structured approach or usual care. The goal is to see if the structured approach reduces confusion and regret about their treatment choice.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
structured shared decision-making approach
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a structured conversation helps patients feel more confident and less regretful about their heart valve treatment choice.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial testing a communication method, not a new drug or device. The results may not apply to all hospitals or patients.
