Could a drug for schizophrenia work differently in men and women?
NCT ID NCT07122895
First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether an NMDA-enhancing drug can improve negative symptoms of schizophrenia (like lack of motivation or social withdrawal) and if it works better in men or women. 90 people with stable schizophrenia will receive either the drug or a placebo for several weeks. Researchers will measure changes in symptom scales to see if sex influences the treatment's effectiveness.

- Active substance
- NMDA enhancer (NMDAE)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward a more personalized treatment for negative symptoms of schizophrenia, tailored by sex.

- This is an early phase 2 trial with only 90 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The drug may not work better than placebo, and side effects are possible.
