First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study looked at whether adding a sedative called dexmedetomidine during knee replacement surgery could help prevent kidney damage caused by the anesthetic sevoflurane. Researchers measured kidney function in 90 patients before and after surgery. The goal was to see if dexmedetomidine's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects could protect the kidneys, especially in older patients or those with borderline kidney function.
