Blood tests may reveal if atypical MS is a different disease

NCT ID NCT04201470

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looked at 58 people, including those with typical and atypical multiple sclerosis (MS) and healthy controls, to see if blood markers of nerve damage could help tell these conditions apart. Researchers measured two proteins in the blood: neurofilament light chain and GFAP. The goal was to understand whether people with unusual MRI findings have a more severe form of MS or a completely different disease.
