NCT ID NCT04648774

First seen Jun 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 08, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This pilot study tested whether a nerve block called the serratus anterior plane (SAP) block can help control pain after heart surgery. 50 adults having heart surgery through a chest incision were randomly assigned to receive either a numbing medicine (ropivacaine) or a placebo through small tubes placed near the ribs for 3 days. The main goal was to see if a larger study is possible, looking at how many people joined, followed the plan, and completed pain surveys. The study also checked for side effects like collapsed lung or allergic reactions.
