Blood platelet RNA test could revolutionize ovarian cancer detection
NCT ID NCT06665945
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
The SENTRY study is testing whether changes in platelet RNA (a type of genetic material in blood cells) can help diagnose ovarian cancer early. Researchers will collect blood samples from 245 women—those with ovarian masses and healthy volunteers—to see if their new test can accurately tell who has cancer. If it works, this could lead to a simple, non-invasive screening tool for a disease that is often caught too late.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Platelet RNA expression test (diagnostic test)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple blood test that helps detect ovarian cancer earlier, when treatment is more likely to work.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study. The test may not be accurate enough in real-world settings, and results may not apply to all women.
