Magnetic marker may simplify breast cancer lymph node surgery
NCT ID NCT06104371
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a magnetic tracer and clip to mark lymph nodes before chemotherapy in breast cancer patients. The goal is to see if this method can reliably find the sentinel lymph node during surgery after chemo. About 459 adults with breast cancer will take part. The approach could make surgery more precise and avoid radioactive tracers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Magtrace (superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles) and Magseed magnetic clip
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make sentinel lymph node surgery after chemotherapy more reliable and less invasive for breast cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase study focused on detection rates, not on curing cancer. The magnetic tracer may not work as well as standard methods, and some patients cannot have it due to MRI needs or allergies.
