Healing with the senses: new study tests music and touch for ICU recovery

NCT ID NCT07116941

First seen Feb 22, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding simple sensory and mental activities—like listening to music, gentle touch, or solving puzzles—can help adults recover after heart surgery in the intensive care unit (ICU). About 125 patients will be randomly assigned to one of four groups: standard care, cognitive stimulation, music, or a combination of touch and smell. Researchers will measure anxiety, heart rate, blood pressure, and physical function to see which approach works best.
