Custom insoles may steady the steps of MS patients — a trial puts them to the test

NCT ID NCT07735325

First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether custom-designed sensorimotor insoles, worn daily for six months, can improve balance and walking in people with multiple sclerosis. Fifty adults with MS (mild to moderate disability) will be randomly assigned to receive the insoles or continue their usual care. Researchers will measure changes in stability, gait, foot sensation, ankle strength, and quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
custom sensorimotor insoles (Anatomy Line SMIs) worn daily for at least 5 hours over 6 months
What this could lead to
If effective, these insoles could offer a simple, non-drug way to improve balance and walking for people with multiple sclerosis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants. The insoles may not provide meaningful benefits over standard care, and results may not apply to all MS types.
