Silver solution may ease pain at the dentist for children with MIH

NCT ID NCT05964387

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests if applying silver diamine fluoride (SDF) to children's molars affected by molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) helps local anesthesia work better during fillings. Fifty children will receive either SDF or a placebo before dental work. The goal is to see if SDF reduces pain and improves numbing, making dental visits easier for kids.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

silver diamine fluoride (SDF)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could make dental treatments less painful for children with MIH, improving their experience and care.

What could go wrong

This is a small early-stage trial with only 50 children, so results may not apply to everyone. SDF may not improve anesthesia as hoped.
