Can teachers and a phone app ease teen depression?
NCT ID NCT06881342
First seen Sep 18, 2026 · Last updated Sep 18, 2026
Summary
Researchers are testing a stepped mental health program for adolescents in Pakistani public schools. The program starts with teacher-led support for emotional distress. Students who do not improve move to a CBT-based guided self-help app. The study checks whether this approach is practical and acceptable for 13 to 15 year olds.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a stepped school mental health program combining teacher-led support with a CBT-based guided self-help app
- What this could lead to
- If the program proves feasible, it could give schools in low-resource settings a practical way to support adolescents with depression and anxiety. It could also shape larger trials of stepped mental health care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small feasibility study, so it cannot show whether the program actually reduces depression. The results may not apply to other schools, ages, or regions, and some adolescents may need more intensive care than the program can provide.
