Role-Play with a simulated patient: a new way to train nurses in mental health?

NCT ID NCT07757750

First seen Aug 11, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study asks whether a scenario-based simulation, where nursing students interact with an actor portraying a person with schizophrenia, can boost their knowledge, empathy, and caregiving skills. Around 105 students will complete questionnaires before and after the simulation, which includes a preparation phase, a 15-minute clinical encounter, and a structured debriefing. The goal is to see if this hands-on training better equips future nurses to support individuals with schizophrenia.

What this could lead to
If effective, this training approach could become a standard part of psychiatric nursing education, better preparing students to care for people with schizophrenia.
