Triple threat: radiation, chemo, and immunotherapy before breast cancer surgery
NCT ID NCT06914440
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing whether giving a short course of targeted radiation (SBRT) followed by a reduced-dose chemotherapy (nab-paclitaxel) plus an immunotherapy drug (toripalimab) before surgery can improve outcomes for people with HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. The study will enroll 27 participants with stage IIB to IIIC disease. The main goal is to see how many patients have no cancer remaining in the breast or lymph nodes at the time of surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), nab-paclitaxel, and toripalimab
What this could lead to
If it works, this combination could increase the chance of eliminating all cancer before surgery, potentially reducing recurrence risk for HR+/HER2- breast cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 27 participants and no comparison group. The added radiation and immunotherapy may cause side effects, and the approach may not improve outcomes over standard treatment.
