One-Day fix for big liver tumors? new study tests Same-Day radiation
NCT ID NCT06944483
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether people with large liver cancer (over 5 cm) can get their entire radioembolization treatment in a single day. Normally, planning scans and treatment are done on separate days. The procedure involves injecting tiny radioactive beads into the liver's blood supply to kill cancer cells. Researchers will check if this one-day approach is safe and works well for 138 participants.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Y90 resin microspheres (SIR-Spheres)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make treatment for large liver tumors more convenient by completing planning and therapy in one day, potentially reducing hospital visits.
What could go wrong
This is an early registry study with only 138 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. There are risks like radiation exposure to the lungs or liver damage.
