New study aims to catch eye cancer spread early with blood tests and scans

NCT ID NCT04424719

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study follows 700 people with uveal melanoma, a rare eye cancer, who are at high risk of the cancer spreading to the liver. Participants get regular liver MRIs and blood tests to look for early signs of metastasis. The goal is to see if personalized monitoring can detect relapses sooner.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to earlier detection of liver metastases in uveal melanoma patients, improving treatment timing.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not testing a new treatment. It may not change outcomes directly, and early detection does not guarantee better survival.
