Tumor 'Mini-Me' tested to match cancer drugs to patients
NCT ID NCT06686979
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether growing a patient's tumor cells in the lab (called organoids) and testing drugs on them can predict how well those drugs will work in the patient. It involves 40 people with recurrent or metastatic salivary gland cancer. Researchers will compare the lab test results to the actual response from standard treatment, but the lab results will not be used to change treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that testing drugs on a patient's tumor cells in a dish helps doctors choose the right treatment, making therapy more personalized.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study (40 people) that only checks if lab results match real-world outcomes. It does not test a new treatment, so it may not directly improve care.
