Saliva secrets: do clear aligners or braces change your Mouth's chemistry?

NCT ID NCT07397871

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will compare how clear aligners (like Invisalign) and traditional braces change saliva flow, acidity, and buffering capacity in 40 adults. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments, and saliva samples will be collected at several points during treatment. The goal is to understand if one method is gentler on oral health.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help orthodontists understand how different treatments affect oral health, potentially leading to better care during teeth straightening.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (40 participants) measuring saliva changes, not health outcomes. Results may not apply to everyone and won't directly improve treatment.
