Could HIV drugs slow Alzheimer's? new safety trial begins
NCT ID NCT07210528
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether two HIV medications, emtricitabine and Descovy, are safe for people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a condition that can lead to Alzheimer's. Researchers think these drugs might slow disease progression by blocking a process linked to Alzheimer's. About 48 participants will take either the drug or a placebo daily for 3 months, with safety and early effects on memory and inflammation being monitored.
