Could a magnetic helmet boost brainpower in Parkinson's?

NCT ID NCT03836950

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called rTMS can safely improve mild thinking problems in veterans with Parkinson's disease. Researchers will give real or fake rTMS sessions to 56 veterans and measure changes in executive function (like planning and memory). The goal is to see if this approach is feasible and effective for cognitive rehabilitation.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a non-drug way to ease thinking problems in people with Parkinson's disease.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase trial with only 56 participants, so results may not apply widely. The treatment is still experimental and may not improve thinking.
