Could a rose geranium spray soothe Chemo-Related nose pain?
NCT ID NCT04620369
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a nasal spray made from rose geranium in sesame oil can improve symptoms of nasal vestibulitis—like dryness, discomfort, bleeding, and scabbing—in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Over 100 participants were randomly assigned to use either the rose geranium spray or a plain saline spray for two weeks. The goal was to see if the herbal spray worked better than saline at easing the most bothersome nose symptom.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
rose geranium in sesame oil nasal spray
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, natural option to ease nose discomfort, dryness, and bleeding for cancer patients on chemotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is a completed phase III trial, but the results are not yet widely confirmed. The improvement may be modest or similar to saline, and it only targets symptoms, not the underlying cancer or nasal condition.
