Can a single robotic incision fix hernias with less pain and better looks?
NCT ID NCT07755657
First seen Aug 10, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial is testing a new robotic method for repairing ventral hernias (bulges in the belly wall) using a single small incision above the pubic bone. The approach, called SP2 eTEP, uses the da Vinci Single Port system to place a mesh to strengthen the abdominal wall. Researchers will measure how long the surgery takes, any technical problems, and complication rates, as well as patients' quality of life and body image after the procedure. The study includes adults with certain types of midline hernias, with or without a separation of the abdominal muscles.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Robotic suprapubic extraperitoneal single-port (SP2 eTEP) ventral hernia repair using the da Vinci Single Port surgical system
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could offer a less invasive, potentially faster-recovering option for ventral hernia repair, with improved cosmetic outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study. The procedure is technically demanding and may carry risks such as complications, device issues, or longer surgery times. Results may not apply to all hernia types.
