NCT ID NCT06106373

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested a robotic device called iotaSOFT that helps surgeons insert cochlear implants into the ears of children with hearing loss. Twenty children aged 9 months to 12 years took part. The goal was to see if the robot is safe and works well. Researchers tracked any problems for 30 days after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

iotaSOFT Insertion System (robotic assistive device for cochlear implant surgery)

What this could lead to

If successful, this robotic tool could make cochlear implant surgery safer and more precise for children, potentially improving hearing outcomes.

What could go wrong

This was a small, early study with only 20 children and no comparison group. The device may not work better than standard manual insertion, and there is a risk of surgical complications.
