Ancient remedy takes on chemo nerve damage

NCT ID NCT07614243

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether roasted nux vomica capsules can help with nerve pain caused by the chemotherapy drug bortezomib in multiple myeloma patients. Twenty-two participants took the capsules for six weeks while continuing their regular chemo. Researchers measured changes in nerve pain severity and quality of life, and also looked at a specific genetic pathway (lncRNA ZFAS1) to understand how the treatment might work.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Roasted Nux Vomica (Strychnos nux-vomica) capsules

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a natural option to reduce nerve pain caused by bortezomib chemotherapy in multiple myeloma patients.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early study with only 22 people and no comparison group. The results may not apply to everyone, and nux vomica can be toxic if not processed correctly.
