Second Time's the charm? new study investigates repeat strabismus surgery

NCT ID NCT07446621

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study follows 62 people who need a second surgery for crossed or wandering eyes (strabismus). Researchers want to find out what factors increase the risk of needing repeat surgery and how successful the second operation is. Participants get a personalized surgical plan and are followed for three months to check eye alignment and movement.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Horizontal Strabismus Reoperation (repeat eye muscle surgery)

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help doctors better predict who might need a second strabismus surgery and improve surgical planning to reduce the need for further operations.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study (62 people) with no control group. Results may not apply to everyone, and the 3-month follow-up is too short to know long-term outcomes.
