Antibiotic breakthrough could save diabetic feet from amputation
NCT ID NCT03012529
Summary
This study tested whether adding the antibiotic rifampin to standard treatments could help prevent foot and leg amputations in diabetic patients with serious bone infections. Researchers followed 843 veterans with diabetes and foot bone infections, giving half rifampin and half a placebo along with their regular antibiotics. The main goal was to see if the added medication helped patients avoid amputations and stay alive longer.
