Arm cuff therapy may stop stroke from worsening

NCT ID NCT07237542

First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests a treatment called remote ischemic preconditioning (RIC) to see if it can prevent early worsening of symptoms in people who have had a mild stroke caused by a blocked small artery. The treatment involves briefly inflating a blood pressure cuff on the arm to restrict blood flow, then releasing it, which may protect the brain. The study will include 910 adults who have had a stroke within the last 48 hours and will compare those who receive RIC plus standard care to those who receive a sham procedure plus standard care.
