New collagen membrane matches standard graft for gum thickening around implants

NCT ID NCT06880185

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested whether a special collagen membrane could thicken gum tissue around dental implants as well as a standard connective tissue graft. Twenty healthy adults with thin gums received one of the two treatments during implant placement. After three months, both methods increased gum thickness by about 2 mm, with similar pain and quality-of-life scores. The collagen membrane appears to be a promising alternative to the graft.
