New collagen membrane matches tissue graft for gum thickening around implants

NCT ID NCT06880185

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a special collagen membrane could replace a tissue graft to thicken gums around dental implants. Twenty healthy adults with thin gums received either the collagen membrane or a graft during implant surgery. After 3 months, both methods increased gum thickness by about 2 mm, with similar pain and quality-of-life scores. The collagen membrane appears to be a good alternative to the tissue graft.
