Zapping thyroid nodules without surgery: new study tracks results
NCT ID NCT07140757
First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study follows 50 people who choose radiofrequency ablation (RFA) instead of surgery for benign thyroid nodules, indeterminate nodules, or low-risk papillary thyroid cancer. Researchers track how well the treatment works over time and how it affects quality of life. Participants fill out questionnaires about symptoms and well-being during regular follow-up visits.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiofrequency ablation
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that RFA is a safe, effective alternative to surgery for certain thyroid nodules and low-risk cancers, preserving thyroid function and avoiding surgical risks.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase observational study (50 participants) focused on tracking outcomes, not testing a new treatment. Results may not apply to all patients, and long-term effectiveness is still unknown.
Conditions
