Can a drug cocktail revive immunotherapy for breast cancer?
NCT ID NCT05076682
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing several drug combinations (including choline, sodium cromoglicate, efavirenz, and others) alongside immunotherapy to see if they can reverse resistance in triple-negative breast cancer that has progressed after prior immunotherapy. About 80 participants with metastatic or locally advanced disease will be enrolled. The goal is to find a safe and effective way to make tumors respond again to treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- combination of drugs (choline, sodium cromoglicate, efavirenz, SHR-A1811, SHR-A2102, SHR-1316, mecapegfilgrastim, AK131, and others) plus an immune checkpoint inhibitor
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a way to re-sensitize triple-negative breast cancer to immunotherapy, offering a new treatment option for patients who have stopped responding.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early phase 2 trial with only 80 participants and multiple drug combinations, so it is unclear which combination works best or if any will prove effective. Side effects from the drug cocktail may also be significant.
