Could a simple leg gadget help stroke recovery?
NCT ID NCT07197996
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two leg devices—the geko® nerve stimulator and an intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) sleeve—to see if they increase blood flow to the brain in people who recently had an ischemic stroke. Eighty adults within 36 hours of stroke onset will use one of the devices as part of standard care. Researchers will measure brain blood flow using special sensors to compare the effects of each device.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
geko® device (neuromuscular electrostimulation) and intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that simple leg devices boost brain blood flow after a stroke, pointing toward a new way to aid recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study focused on measuring blood flow, not on long-term outcomes. The devices may not meaningfully change recovery, and results may not apply to all stroke patients.
