First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study tests whether training your breathing muscles can also strengthen your tongue. Sixty healthy adults will use a device called POWERbreathe Medic to do breathing exercises for several weeks. Researchers will measure tongue strength and endurance before and after training. The goal is to see if this simple exercise could one day help people with swallowing or speech problems.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
POWERbreathe Medic device for inspiratory muscle training
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a way to improve tongue strength and endurance, which may help people with swallowing or speech difficulties.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study in healthy people only, so results may not apply to patients. The training is safe but may not produce meaningful changes in tongue function.
