Summary

This study investigates why breathing muscles weaken in people with end-stage COPD, a severe lung disease. Researchers will measure muscle function using non-invasive tests like ultrasound and EMG, and analyze muscle tissue samples taken during lung transplant surgery. The goal is to understand the underlying processes and how treatments like non-invasive ventilation affect these muscles. Sixty adults on the lung transplant waiting list will participate.
