Popular diabetes drugs may leave food in stomach despite fasting
NCT ID NCT06500143
First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looked at whether GLP-1 medications (used for diabetes and weight loss) increase the risk of having food or liquid in the stomach before surgery, even after the required fasting period. Researchers used a quick ultrasound to check stomach contents in 94 adults scheduled for elective surgery, comparing those taking GLP-1 drugs to those who were not. The goal was to see if these medications might raise safety concerns during anesthesia.
