Can a virtual blood pressure clinic keep your brain sharp?
NCT ID NCT05138601
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a virtual clinic where pharmacists monitor blood pressure, adjust medications, and provide telehealth support to older adults (65+) with high blood pressure. The goal is to see if better blood pressure control can also help prevent cognitive decline. About 1,000 participants will use home monitors and a smartphone app to track their numbers over 24 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- virtual collaborative care clinic (home blood pressure monitoring, telehealth, medication management by pharmacists)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer an effective way to manage high blood pressure remotely, potentially reducing the risk of cognitive decline in older adults.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase II pragmatic trial, so results are still preliminary. The approach may not work for everyone, and long-term benefits for cognition are not yet proven.
