Smartphone check-ups after colon surgery may cut hospital returns
NCT ID NCT06850688
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a remote monitoring platform can help patients recover at home after colorectal surgery and avoid being readmitted to the hospital. About 362 adults who had or will have colorectal surgery will be randomly assigned to either 30 days of remote monitoring with connected devices or standard discharge care. Researchers will track hospital readmissions and total days spent in the hospital up to 90 days after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Remote monitoring platform (EPOCA Intelligence Information System) with connected devices like oximeters and blood pressure monitors
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could reduce hospital readmissions and shorten hospital stays after colorectal surgery, improving recovery at home.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study focused on monitoring, not a new treatment. The technology may not reduce readmissions or could be inconvenient for some patients.
