Arm cuff therapy shows promise for Back-of-Brain strokes in major new trial

NCT ID NCT06931535

First seen Apr 29, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a non-invasive treatment called remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) can help people recover from a moderate stroke that affects the back part of the brain. RIC involves briefly inflating a blood pressure cuff on the arm to restrict blood flow, then releasing it, repeated several times. The study will enroll 960 adults who have had a moderate posterior circulation stroke within the last 48 hours. The goal is to see if this simple, low-cost procedure improves the chance of a good recovery (being able to live independently) 90 days later.
