Brain scans and genetics may predict anorexia relapse
NCT ID NCT04560517
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study follows 125 women with anorexia nervosa during and after intensive inpatient treatment to understand why relapse happens. Researchers will use brain imaging, genetic tests, and behavioral tasks to look for patterns. The goal is to find factors that help predict who stays well and who relapses, which could lead to better long-term care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could reveal key factors that predict long-term recovery from anorexia nervosa, helping doctors personalize treatment to prevent relapse.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not identify clear causes of relapse, and results may not apply to all patients.
