Rehab after aneurysm surgery: could a 3-Week program boost heart and lung fitness?

NCT ID NCT07690046

First seen Jul 08, 2026 · Last updated Jul 09, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot study tests whether a three-week inpatient cardiovascular rehabilitation program, started three months after abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, improves cardiorespiratory fitness more than standard post-operative care. Researchers will measure changes in maximal oxygen uptake and walking distance, and also evaluate quality of life, cardiovascular risk factors, and complications. The study enrolls 40 patients who have had open or endovascular repair of an infrarenal aortic aneurysm.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
structured cardiovascular rehabilitation program
What this could lead to
If effective, this rehab program could become a standard part of recovery after aortic aneurysm repair, improving patients' heart and lung fitness and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The program is intensive and may not be suitable for patients with other serious health conditions.
