New mesh could save failing dental implants
NCT ID NCT06153212
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new reinforced PTFE mesh (RPM) against a standard collagen membrane for treating peri-implantitis, a gum infection around dental implants. Thirty-two adults with at least one infected implant will receive surgery to clean the implant, fill the bone defect with graft, and cover it with one of the two membranes. The goal is to see which material better restores bone and gum health around the implant.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
reinforced PTFE mesh (RPM) and collagen membrane with bone grafting
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a better surgical option to treat gum disease around dental implants, potentially saving implants that might otherwise be lost.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial with only 32 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The new mesh might not heal better than the standard collagen membrane, and surgery carries risks like infection or implant failure.
