Summary
This study tested two methods to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use in hospitalized patients treated for pneumonia who had normal breathing rates and oxygen levels. Over 600 patients were randomly assigned to usual care, an electronic alert, or pharmacist outreach. The goal was to safely shorten antibiotic treatment without harming patients.
