NCT ID NCT07629648

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a controlled blood removal method during liver surgery to see if it lowers the need for blood transfusions. About 60 adults having liver resection for cancer will take part. The approach involves removing a small amount of blood before surgery and giving it back afterward, along with careful monitoring and standardized care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

hypovolemic phlebotomy (controlled blood removal and reinfusion)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could reduce the need for blood transfusions during liver surgery, leading to fewer complications and faster recovery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage quality improvement project with only 60 participants. The approach may not work for all patients or may carry risks like unstable blood pressure.
