Brazilian ICUs test simple training to cut antibiotic overuse
NCT ID NCT07093450
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether an educational program can help doctors in intensive care units (ICUs) use fewer antibiotics. The program includes training sessions and feedback based on the latest guidelines. Researchers will compare antibiotic use in ICUs before and after the program, involving about 9,000 patients across multiple Brazilian ICUs. They will also check if reducing antibiotics affects patient safety, such as death rates or length of stay.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Educational quality improvement intervention
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that training and feedback help ICUs use antibiotics more wisely, reducing resistance and side effects without harming patients.
What could go wrong
This is an implementation study, not a drug trial. Results depend on how well doctors follow the program, and it may not work in other settings or countries.
