Cancer trial aims to spare patients major surgery
NCT ID NCT03594630
Summary
This study is testing a new approach for people with stage II-III rectal cancer. After standard chemotherapy and radiation, patients whose cancer appears to be gone will be closely monitored instead of immediately having surgery. The goal is to see if this 'watch and wait' strategy can safely preserve the rectum and avoid the side effects of major surgery for some patients.
