Study aims to find safer radiation approach for rectal cancer surgery
NCT ID NCT07346248
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at 266 adults with advanced rectal cancer who had radiation therapy followed by surgery. It compares standard chemoradiotherapy or short-course radiotherapy with a newer approach called total neoadjuvant treatment (TNT). The goal is to see which method leads to fewer complications within 90 days after surgery, helping doctors choose the safest option.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors choose safer treatment plans for rectal cancer patients, reducing post-surgery complications.
What could go wrong
This is a retrospective study, meaning it looks back at past data, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all patients.
